It sounds like he’s …
It sounds like he’s describing the major pentatonic scale, which is just the major scale with the “color notes” edited out. It also uses the same notes as the pentatonic minor scale, but uses the second note of the minor scale as the root. That’s why you have to be careful about which note you land on, because that note will determine whether a lick sounds minor or major.
