The preacher man says it’s the end of time
And the Mississippi River she’s a goin’ dry
The interest is up and the Stock Markets down And you only get mugged
If you go down town

I live back in the woods, you see
A woman and the kids, and the dogs and me
I got a shotgun rifle and a 4-wheel drive
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I can plow a field all day long
I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too Ain’t too many things these ole boys can’t do We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Because you can’t starve us out
And you cant makes us run
Cause one-of- ‘em old boys raisin ole shotgun And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a darn

We came from the West Virginia coal mines
And the Rocky Mountains and the and the western skies And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot-line And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive

I had a good friend in New York City
He never called me by my name, just hillbilly My grandpa taught me how to live off the land And his taught him to be a businessman He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights And I’d send him some homemade wine

But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife For 43 dollars my friend lost his life Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes And shoot him with my old 45 Cause a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Cause you can’t starve us out and you can’t make us run Cause one-of-’em old boys raisin ole shotgun And we say grace and we say Ma’am And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a darn

We’re from North California and south Alabam
And little towns all around this land
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot-line And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

What are some easy guitar songs that I can play without a capo?

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

I like and variation of rock, alternative, and I like country. I never took any lessons, but I understand the basic chords and stuff.
any* variation

Stratplayer is right. You CAN play just about any song you like without a capo. Since you like country, and in my opinion, country is maybe easier to play then some other styles, try something from that genre. Perhaps some Eagles, which would have some cross-over qualities. Although they are mostly pop, I would suggest Jim Croce, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, or Jimmy Buffett. There are thousands of songs with basic chords and no capo, that you could pick from.
Mostly you should think about playing things you already like alot. The more you like it, the easier it becomes to play.

Should I Take Singing Lessons?

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

I’ve been taking guitar lessons for a few months and now i’m deciding about singing lessons. I want to learn how to sing country music but I’m not sure weather i should take lessons or practice on my own. What would you rather, i’d personally rather not taking lessons because guitar lessons are already 80 dollars a month.
If i do choose not to take lessons how long to you prefer practicing a day?

Well, as a music major, let me explain…

If you want to sing, you’ve got to start on your own. While there are many aspects of singing that can be taught, I believe that there is an equal part (if not more in some cases) that must be natural. However, there will be a LOT of things that you don’t do right, or need extra help with, and it will take somebody other than yourself or your friends or parents to A.) point these out to you, and B.) teach you how to fix them or do them correctly. For these reasons, singing ‘lessons’ are definitely a good idea.

Now, I use the term ‘lessons’ in quotes because there are ways you can go about this without actually "taking lessons". You will learn over time that everything you do is a lesson in itself, and therefore there are unconventional ways to learn how to do something. So, I’d like to make some suggestions to you before you go shelling out another $80/mo for voice lessons.

The first thing you should do, which you hopefully already are doing, is to sing along to your favorite albums. Try many different artists and styles of music, and see if you can follow the melody and make it sound decent. Then, if you can, learn the chords to the songs on your guitar, and play along with them while you sing. Then, eventually, try playing and singing without the help of the album, or with the record’s volume turned down very low.

Secondly, you should consider joining either a community choir or the chorus in your school or church. Singing in a choir is sort of like getting free lessons- you learn to blend your voice with other people’s (quality-enhancing) and you can apply everything the director says to your singing.

The length of time you spend practicing is up to you, however its important to know that consistency and repetition usually are the best ways of learning something. Singing for 10 hours a day once a week won’t give you the same results that singing for 45 minutes daily will.

Hope this helps! Best of luck to you.

Amarillo by morning, up from san antone.
Everything that Ive got is just what Ive got on.
When that sun is high in that texas sky
Ill be bucking it to county fair.
Amarillo by morning, amarillo Ill be there.

They took my saddle in houston, broke my leg in santa fe.
Lost my wife and a girlfriend somewhere along the way.
Well Ill be looking for eight when they pull that gate,
And Im hoping that judge aint blind.
Amarillo by morning, amarillos on my mind.

Amarillo by morning, up from san antone.
Everything that Ive got is just what Ive got on.
I aint got a dime, but what I got is mine.
I aint rich, but lord Im free.
Amarillo by morning, amarillos where Ill be.
Amarillo by morning, amarillos where Ill be.

Intro (0:00)

Verse 1 (0:06)
Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue rich mountains, Shenandoah River

Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze

Chorus (0:30)
Country Roads, take me home, To the
Place I belong, West
Virginia, Mountain mama, take me
Home, Country roads

Verse 2 (0:54)
All my memories, gather round her
Miner’s lady, stranger to blue water

Dark and dusty, painted on the skies
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eyes

Chorus (1:18)
Country Roads, take me home, To the
Place I belong, West
Virginia, Mountain mama, take me
Home, Country roads

Verse 3 (1:42)
I hear her voice in the morning hours she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And driving’ down the road I get a feeling
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday

Chorus (2:05)
Country Roads, take me home, To the
Place I belong, West
Virginia, Mountain mama, take me
Home, Country roads

Out Chorus (2:29)
Country Roads, take me home, To the
Place I belong, West
Virginia, Mountain mama, take me
Home, Country roads, take me
Home, Country roads, take me
Home, Country roads

Enjoy

James
